christmas dogEveryone likes to talk about how to lose your extra holiday weight, but that feat can really only be achieved after you are done feasting on mashed potatoes and cookies shaped like snowmen. For those who prefer to worry about their figure after the New Year, here are some tips on how to adjust your wardrobe to hide your new Santa-sized gut.

Elastic waistbands aren't just for Santa Claus. 'Tis the season to leave your skinny jeans in the back of the closet. Instead, go for something that allows maximum room for extra helpings of honey baked ham and plenty of movement room for rocking out to Techno Jingle Bells.

Bring attention to your face. Whether you use stripes that draw the eyes upward, a dramatic hairstyle or makeup, or the straight to the point "My Face is Up Here" shirt, by keeping attention aimed upwards, maybe your festive holiday jiggle won't even be noticed.

Empire waists are your friend. High-waisted skirts and dresses are pure genius because no matter what size you are above and below, your waist is almost always smaller. It is better that a David Blaine-style illusion. Wearing something that fits up high and is flowy below is a great way to stay comfortable with out breaking out the muumuu.

But...

There is no shame in a muumuu. Put a big belt around it and maybe some bracelets and bangles and everyone will just think you are bohemian.
