Worried about your weight over the Thanksgiving holiday? I don't blame you -- Thanksgiving is pretty much synonymous with overeating. Granted, it's tradition to overeat and you don't want to deny yourself (Plus, no one likes the person who only takes one slice of turkey and steamed broccoli ... ) but at the same time, you don't have to overdo it. Knowing the calorie impact of the food available will help you decide what to have seconds of and what to pass on. Here's a bit of a Thanksgiving dinner breakdown:
- Turkey: A serving of Turkey breast without skin is 161 calories and 8 g of fat. However, a serving of dark meat with skin is 238 calories and 13 g of fat.
- Sweet Potato Casserole: One serving is 300 calories. Ouch.
- Green Bean Casserole: A serving has 275 calories, 10 g of fat.
- Stuffing: One cup of stuffing has 400 calories. Yikes.
- Pumpkin Pie: One slice has about 320 calories and 17 g of fat. That's without the whipped cream.
Long story short? Don't go back for seconds -- unless it's seconds of steamed veggies. Still, enjoy it. It's only once a year, after all.

Everything is spot on except the Turkey bit. I don't care what 'health people' say, nature put dark meat and skin on a bird for a reason. It's completely fine to eat, and satiating, to say the least. Something scarier is the additives in "light cool whip" or the fake fats in margarine.
Thanks, but I'll have my dark turkey with skin, and pass on the stuffing and refined grains.
