Christmas is just around the corner, and I'm willing to bet you're spending many of your weekends rubbing elbows with friends, family and co-workers at any of the number of holiday parties you've been invited to. You might have been lured into saying yes by such promises as free food! and open bar! but if you still want to fit into that sultry black dress (or suit) come New Year's, I suggest you pick your freebies wisely. Here's the calorie low-down on some common holiday nibbles:
- A cup of egg nog is 343 calories and 17 g of fat. Light egg nog is almost as bad at 280 calories ... without rum.
- One measly slice of fruitcake will cost you 275 calories. Meh -- who likes fruitcake anyway?
- A gingerbread cookie is a mere 90 calories. But that's for one. Without icing.
- Those mini quiches have around 70 calories apiece.
