Every year we sing those words, but do you know what
Figgy Pudding is? Do you really want to demand that it be brought to you? Probably.
Similar to a white Christmas pudding, the figgy variety dates back to 16th century England. It's considered more of a
cake than a pudding (though not of the fruit variety), and get this -- it may be baked, steamed in the oven, boiled, or
fried. Yum. Or, so I imagine since the ingredients list contains tasty things like rum extract, apples, cinnamon, sugar, butter...
So, why aren't we eating this tasty, cakey treat every year? It's probably because it needs to make it the right way, it needs to steam for FOUR hours. But still ... if you have the time this holiday season, maybe as you're wrapping presents, you can whip up a batch of figgy pudding.
