Thinking of starting a new tradition this year? Channel your inner Ginnifer Goodwin and adopt a turkey from Farm Sanctuary, a farm animal protection organization. According to Farm Sanctuary, thousands of holiday turkeys are being confined in "dark, filthy sheds, debeaked and detoed without anesthetic and bred to reach a crippling weight at an unnaturally fast rate."
Gross. Instead of contributing to the [very!] graphic situation above, Farm Sanctuary offers adoption and sponsorship opportunities for our favorite November bird. As a turkey sponsor, Farm Sanctuary will send you a certified photo of your new feathered friend, along with a few fun details. I sort of have a thing for Gideon; isn't he a looker?
Feeling ambitious this year? Why not adopt a whole flock in lieu of holiday gifts? Sure beats last year's fruitcake. Gobble, gobble!

I am going to adopt a turkey next week. Then in 2 weeks I will chop it's head off and prepare a delicious Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixins. YUM!

When I was very young my mom and dad bought a live turkey and kept it in the basement in a cage. I use to go down and see it everyday. I got attached to it. Then it was gone. I was only 4 years old, not understanding everything until I got older.

Oh Judy, I am so sorry. We had chickens in town and I could eat the eggs, but had to give the chickens away because I would not, could not eat them.

Sure I will adopt one.....can I get one about 18 lbs. I promise to have the little guy come to Thanksgiving dinner and make sure he is the center of attention. We all will give him a warm greeting. We will pass him around and give thanks for him being there.

You have got to be kidding me??? adopt a cow so we can't have milk.. Adopt a chicken so we can't have eggs. Stop worrying about a turkey and put food on the table and while your at it give to your local food bank..

Karla......... It's pretty clear from your ignorant comment, that you not only missed the meaning of the story, but you have no feelings for animals!!! The story talks about the SUFFERING the turkey goes through in order to be placed on your table at Thanksgiving!!!!! And for animal lovers like me, the DETAILS were horrific!!!! Why in the hell would I want another living creature go through a bunch of SUFFERING, LIKE BEING DEBEAKED AND DETOED "WITHOUT" ANYTHING FOR THE PAIN, ONLY TO SIT BACK, WITHOUT GUILT, AND CONSUME IT??? I think I'll be adopting one of these birds, because unlike people like you, I HAVE A HEART!!!!

I agree with you Karla........

You know some celebrities are real nut cases. They would rather save a turkey than feed or help the homeless or even starving children. I really wonder where the priorities of people like that are.

Thank you Ted! We need more like you who can cut through all the crap out there and get to what's important.
lavonna,11-04-2009, 9:32PM
Why do men and women in the service need to be adopted and what does this have to do with the story?
Pete,11-05-2009, 12:10AM
thank god there are normal people like you; ones who have common sense, and think about actually making a difference in this world. It amazes me how people throw hissie fits over the "poor turkeys" while terrorists are blowing up innocent people in other countries. Anywho, thanks for posting your comment, I'm glad somebody actually has a pair of balls.

once again we have a so called star trying to push her thought's on us ,when will it stop, instead of worrying about some turkeys why doesnt she instead donate the money to a charity that will feed the poor.these people get famous and all of a sudden they think that everything they say and do are more important than the average person.there are more people this year in need of help then ever before and its time for them to stop flying to their private islands in their private jets and do something to help
Gary,11-04-2009, 6:15PM
