Attention Walmart shoppers! Turkey prices are coming down!
If you are worried about stretching your budget to cover holiday expenses this year, you will be pleased to know that Walmart has got your back. Starting today, U.S.
Walmart stores will be selling whole, 12-pound turkeys for 40 cents a pound. According to a price survey by American Farm Bureau Federation, that's one-third of the average price of turkeys last year.
$4.80 for a turkey is certainly something to be thankful for.

Not only is Walmart slashing turkey prices, they are cutting the cost of the entire Thanksgiving meal. With reduced prices on canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, stuffing, red potatoes, dinner rolls and a pumpkin roll cake, you can serve eight people for about $20.
When the meal is over and it's time for some football, Walmart hopes you will come back for your television needs as well. They've dropped the price of a 42-inch Sharp flat-panel TV to $498. That's almost $300 off the regular price. Go bigger and save even more with a 46-inch model marked down from $1,158 to $698. These prices go into effect on November 7.
If the items on your own personal wish-list haven't been marked down at Walmart, be patient. In order to draw in cash-strapped consumers, the retail giant plans to continue cutting prices weekly through the holiday season.

Even better than a $4.80 turkey is a creative Thanksgiving with no turkey at all. Think of the expense you'll save as well as the life of a turkey.
As a vegetarian of 14 years, my family has had fantastic dinners and believe me, we don't miss meat at all. Mac and cheese casserole, bro & cheese casserole, green beans, candied yams. There are so many wonderful meatless dishes to enjoy.
Go veg - for the animals, environment, health, and expense.

Gee, that sounds just lovely for Thanksgiving. I am going to buy four 12 lbs turkeys instead of 2 larger ones just to piss you off, and I'll but a couple of pound of ground beef and some steaks too.

Meaning no disrespect, it reminds of the "Everbody Loves Raymond" episode where Marie makes Tofurkey. One of the funniest episodes ever.

And where does the cheese come from? Do you wear shoes and belts in this veggie family? All these eco stuff where does it come from? Lots of pollution from the manufacture of this eco stuff!

i understan going vegetarian
but with all the contriversary re:soy and its ill effects, and we all know the dire effects of dairy...all the fat , sodium & mucus. Trust me, a little turkey is looking better & better
Pat 11-06-2009 @ 2:51PM
Thanks for your suggestion, I will just kill the turkey....meat mmmmmmm
Jamie 11-06-2009 @ 3:13PM
But it's okay to imprison the cow that produces all that yummy cheese in your cheesy casseroles? Just because you go meatless, does not mean you are better to animals and the environment than the next person. Quit preaching. Oh, and a turkey at that price is cheaper than all the cheese you are loading into your unhealthy casseroles.

You are sooooooo right!!!!!!!

I am sorry, but that is just not American to Not have turkey
cyndi 11-06-2009 @ 8:12PM
Well, that's all well and good, but you have your Thanksgiving your way while the rest of us eat turkey. Which, as some have mentioned, is lowfat and way more healthy than all that cheese you use. Also, being a vegetarian, you have a greater risk of ostoporosis and anemia, due to low iron. Not only that, if God didn't want us to eat meat, he wouldn't have made it taste so good. LOL. As for expense, I'm not sure how you're equating a not-even-5-dollar 12 # turkey with being expensive. You can do many things with leftover turkey, and eat it for days. I'm getting a couple. Woo hoo!!!!

As a vegetarian of 2 1/2 years, I understand your passion for the subject, but honey, climb down off of your high horse before you get hurt up there. Let people live their lives how they want to. You and I chose not to eat meat...other people chose to do so. Let everyone live their lives how THEY choose to do so, instead of trying to convert everyone to your version of "better".

Let the turkeys live this Thanksgiving!
Dyan 11-06-2009 @ 6:07AM
Mac & cheese? Broccoli & cheese? sounds like a fattening meal for a vegetarian. Turkeys are raised soley for the meat, not to run the countryside & frolic in the meadows. Have a low fat turkey, leave out the cheese, add more fresh vegies & people will be healthier & slimmer.
