If "
New Moon" star Kellan Lutz is at all worn down, he doesn't show it in Boston. Greeting a small group of media in a conference room at the Ritz, he looks spry and rested. But he has been traveling across the country on a media tour for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," the second film in the 'Twilight' series, and says the jet lag flying from coast to coast is getting to him. And then there are the fans.
"I had a mother wanting me to sign her son's forehead with a permanent marker, and I was like, that can't be good for your kid," he tells Holidash. "No, I said I'll act like I'm biting his neck and you can take a picture. She's like, 'Oh, that's even better.' I'm like, 'Yeah, I think so, too.'"
This year, Lutz has worked on "New Moon" and the third "Twilight" movie, "Eclipse," a remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" with Jackie Earle Haley, an indie film called "Meskada," and a movie called "Warrior," in which he has the lead. By the time "New Moon" opens on November 20, he'll be done for the year and looking forward to snowboarding and spending the holidays with his mother in Arizona.
"It's definitely going to be nice," he says. "I enjoy all this press stuff, but it's definitely going to be nice to go home for the holidays. My mom's very traditional and puts up lights and cooks great meals and little cookies. It's just great to be with the family."
Lutz grew up in Arizona, and enjoys getting back there for Christmas (his father lives in Los Angeles), and being spoiled by Mom. "I feel like a little kid when I go home and have a little stocking full of candy," he tells Holidash. "It's great."
When he gets a little more spare time, he'll head out to Mammoth and Big Bear, and perhaps Aspen, to get in a bit of snowboarding with a few friends. "I have a truck now and I bring my dog in my truck and throw my boards in the back," he says. "It's a piece of crap truck, breaks down all the time. It's a Toyota pickup, pretty much. But it's my baby, I love it. Off-road all the time."
Lutz says he is thankful his acting hobby turned out to be a career. He was planning on studying chemical engineering. "To go this route, I'm just very blessed to do it," he says. "So, with being a part of 'Twilight,' it's definitely opened my eyes to how nuts it is to be a named actor and have paparazzi crash their cars trying to get pictures of you."
"New Moon" is out shortly, "Eclipse" is in post-production, but there is one more novel in Stephenie Meyer's series left -- "Breaking Dawn." Lutz says the crew broke up after filming "Eclipse" in Vancouver, and there has been no word on "Breaking Dawn." He and his fellow cast members have fallen in love with their characters, but finishing the series is out of their hands.
"I think it really matters to the fans, if they still come out and support 'New Moon' like they did 'Twilight,' and then 'Eclipse,'" he tells us. "Because we all want to finish this baby. It's such a part of us, it just would seem empty not to finish the last chapter."
