Walmart is working to help families on a budget cut holiday spending this year. In addition to deals on everything from
flat screen televisions to
Blackberry devices, the retail giant has slashed
turkey prices to $.040 a pound. With a cheaper turkey and reduced prices on the fixings, you can feed a family of eight a Thanksgiving meal for about $20.
That sounds like a great deal, but we wanted to know how a Walmart meal stacks up against an organic and natural one from Whole Foods. We compared the prices on Walmart's $20 Thanksgiving meal with a comparable one from
Whole Foods and the difference may surprise you. Here's what we got at Whole Foods:
- 12 lb. Whole Foods Free Range Young Turkey @2.29/lb = $27.48
- 2 cans 365 Cut Green Beans @ $1.69/ea = $3.38
- 2 cans 365 Organic Cranberry Sauce @ $1.99/ea = $3.98
- Whole Foods In-House Made Stuffing Bread $5.11
- 3 lb Bag Red Potatoes $3.87
- Whole Foods Holiday Brown & Serve Rolls $3.49
- Vegan Pumpkin Pie $10.99
And the total is ... $58.30 -- almost three times the Walmart dinner! Is it worth it?
