It's time to let your child decorate their own tree! Photo: hyperbolation, Flickr

This holiday season, why not teach your children a thing or two about how to decorate a Christmas tree? I'll never forget the year my mother brought home three mini Christmas trees for my sisters and me. We were allowed to decorate with whatever we could find around the house, and my goodness --- we got quite crafty. Anyway, encourage your child to do the same with these easy decorative steps:

THE PLAN:
For no-fuss Christmas tree decorating, give your child an empty box with which to fill their favorite lightweight objects from around the house. Encourage them to choose buttons, tassels, extra fabric -- anything that can easily be hung onto a tree. Next, use paperclips or clothespins to hang the objects onto the tree. Steer clear of lights, as some objects may be extra flammable.

THE ACCENTS:
Pop a few kernels of popcorn and string a garland together with your child to create a fun and crafty garland. Instead of using a star as a Christmas tree topper, frame a photo of your child, or even hang their favorite small stuffed animal from the top.

THE BONUS:
Giving your child the chance to decorate for the holidays will prove memorable for years to come. Better yet? They'll burn up all of that pent-up energy during the day so you'll have a chance to smooch Santa Claus in the early eve.

Of course, when you're finished with the tree, why not settle down at the kitchen table with these Free Kids Crafts, courtesy of ShelterPop? Perfect for a snowy afternoon nestled in with the ones you love. Enjoy!
