Home Movies: Christmas in the '60s
YouTube holds a wealth of home movies, including many shot on 8mm film in the 1960s. Christmas was a popular time to break out the old Super 8, and so today we have a few to share with you. Above, an anonymous Christmas 1969.
This one is noteworthy for Dad receiving a handgun as a present and pointing it all around in a most casual (and alarming) manner, a wiggling and jumping little boy who can hardly contain his excitement for dinner, and a monstrous beehive, which first appears at the 2:50 mark.
In this one, also from '69, more gun-wielding, and the kids' table isn't even a real table; they're eating on TV trays.
This one, from 1966, is notable most for how dressed up everyone was, and the overall unusually dignified unwrapping process. It leaves you hanging as to what the big gift is, though.
Here, another 1969 Christmas, notable for quality presents like the Hippity Hop ride-on ball and the acoustic guitar. If you click through to YouTube on any of these videos, there are loads more home movies available for your voyeuristic pleasure.

look again... it's obvious that the "gun" dad received was a "lighter"
