Breaking up is hard to do but watching other people do it in the movies is easy. And fun! We aren't talking about the break up movies that require boxes of tissues and an emergency trip to the therapist after the credits roll. We are talking the absurd, over-the-top break up comedy movies that make our own messy splits look downright civilized.

If you find yourself reeling from a broken heart this Valentine's Day, celebrate your freedom with a break up movie party. Invite your unattached pals over, grab some popcorn and sit back and enjoy the misfortunes of others in these five hilarious break up movies.

War of the Roses: The title alludes to a famous battle over the throne of England during the Middle Ages, but this 1989 film starring Micheal Douglas and Kathleen Turner is a modern look at divorce in a material world. As Oliver and Barbara Rose face the end of their marriage, they cope by going to war over their possessions. It's black comedy at its finest and the over-to-top battles will surely help put your own break up into perspective.

First Wives Club: Any woman who has ever been replaced by a newer model will enjoy this film about three middle aged friends on the verge of losing everything to their soon-to-be exes. Before they get kicked to the curb, these feisty ladies hatch a crazy blackmail scheme that will allow them to hang on to their money and their dignity.

The Break Up: A mismatched couple engage in a long, drawn-out break up that is complicated by the fact that neither wants to vacate the luxurious condo they share. Egged on by their respective friends and family, they try to drive the other out with increasingly outrageous tactics. In the end, of course, nobody wins.

The Heartbreak Kid: Ben Stiller plays it for laughs in this movie about a marriage that never should have been. Finding himself hitched to the wrong person for the wrong reasons, Eddie Cantrow falls in love with another woman while on his honeymoon. In a bid to get the girl he really wants, he sneaks around and ultimately gets exactly what he deserves.

She Devil: A put-upon housewife does battle with her ex husband and his new mistress in this 1989 film starring Rosanne Barr, Meryl Steep and Ed Begley, Jr. Bent upon destroying her husband's perfect new life, frumpy Ruth puts into motion a hysterical revenge plot that brings her cheating ex to his knees.
