The Fishers were joined in holy matrimony during the age of Model T's and flappers, but the North Carolina lovebirds are using a decidedly modern method to share their thoughts on love and marriage. Through February 12, Twitter and Facebook users can post questions for the couple and on February 14, Valentine's Day, they will tweet their answers to fourteen of the best inquiries.
The couple's granddaughter, Iris Godett, says her grandparents just want to share what they've learned with the younger generation. And in this day of drive-through marriages and soaring divorce rates, it is heartening to see that the questions are already pouring in from those who want to know how to make their own relationships work.
At least one Twitterer wants to know how the Fishers feel about online dating sites while another wonders if monogamy is absolutely necessary for a good marriage. Another asks if they ever seriously considered breaking up and if so, what made them stay together.
Herbert and Zelmyra, 104 and 102 respectively, are already in the Guinness World Records for being the living couple with the longest marriage. And if they can keep it together for more than 128 days after their May anniversary, the pair will officially break the previous record for the longest marriage in recorded history, set by the late Philipose and Sosamma Thomas of India. Something tells me these two are going to make it.
If you want to find out what makes a marriage work from two people who clearly know what they are talking about, tweet your own questions to @longestmarried or post a message on the America's Tweethearts Facebook page. And don't forget to bring your own sweetheart back on Valentine's Day to learn the secrets of everlasting love.

This is such a beautiful story. My mom and dad were married 56 years before my mom passed away in 2006 and my dad passed away in 2009. I miss them terribly. There won't be any marriages like these anymore, people running to get married and running to get divorced. I have been married for almost 16 years now and that is a long time in these days. My heartfelt love go out to this couple and hope they have many more years or happiness.

Personally I don't believe for one minute that they are the age they are pretending to be of that they have been married for that long. And I bet there is a big excuse as to why they cannot produce paperwork to prove either claim.
Babygirl,2-12-2010, 12:39PM
Connie, you are such an A$$hole. If they could not prove their ages or the length of their marriage, they would not be in The Guinness Book of World Records. You don't just get there without all info being verified. Stop being a hater. Either you are a product of a failed marriage or no one has ever asked for your hand. Either way, don't try to add disparity to a very inspirational story. Grow-up.

God Bless you both. Marriage is a give and take arrangement you have to bend with one another and know each other inside out, to know when to bend and when not to. I've been married 23 yrs and its a lot of hard work together that's well worth the time and love and togetherness. God asks us to join in matrimony and have a family and live for Him. I believe living for Him helps in all situations. He will provide for you and your family. I can see He provided for the two of you very well. My prayers are with you and your family.Have a wonderful day .
