If Dad likes to hit the water with a beer or three, grab him a Father's Day gift that will keep the brew afloat and happy.
There are the handy gifts. There are the cheesy gag gifts. And then there are the presents that fall blissfully in-between. It might seem silly to buy your Dad a way to keep his drink afloat while at the beach, but it will also be a darned handy gift. No more salt water seeping in, no more hops lost to the lake. It can be fun, relaxing, or wonderfully silly.
First of all, forget those little slip-on coolers. They won't do anything in the waves as Dad throws the pigskin or floats along in the water. Instead, grab a floating drink holder or cooler. It can hold primary and back-up beverages, and even some ice for when the sun beats down too harshly. And if the sun has a tendency to beat down with crazy ferocity, grab a Big Bobber (pictured to the right) which lets each drink rest on ice that's shaded from the rays.
If Dad prefers to unwind and float, the holder can be combined with a comfy and inflatable chair that keeps him, and his drink, above-water. This Floating Pool Chair from Sharper Image comes with a heftier price tag, but also a whole added level of comfort. Likewise, if there's already a collection of rafts and tubes, just grab a simply duckie drink holder than can be secured to any family raft situation.
Finally, being a Dad doesn't mean you have to give up all childish pursuits. If Dad likes a wild time here or there, grab him a Port-o-Pong raft that allows Dad and his buddies to play beer pong while keeping cool in the water. If there are video games that play without the brewskies, why not real-beer games that allow you to be in the sun and water at the same time? Even if he doesn't play pong, it's a great way to keep a whole slew of drinks afloat at a party. Instead a ping pong ball-center, that can be filled with bowls of snacks.
Silly? Maybe. But we bet Dad will be ever-grateful if it keeps his drinks untainted by sun and water.
