Want to be something really scary this Halloween? How about Mel Gibson? Ooh terrifying!

Another year, another string of Mel Gibson mad-dog rants -- this time, it was a series of shocking telephone tirades against ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. To send-up Gibson's bad behavior with a costume this Halloween, do a takeoff on classic Gibson characters from films such as Lethal Weapon or Braveheart, or just go for the disheveled aging movie star look. Bear in mind, though, that this costume requires some acting to pull off: Angry Mel Gibson won't come alive by mullet alone.

What you need:

  • Wig

  • Blue face paint (optional)

  • Old t-shirt and fabric pen or paint

  • Novelty phone

Hair
Although he wears his hair short nowadays, Mel Gibson is known for his coiffed '80s mullet hairstyles. Mullet wigs can be found easily at mot costume shops, or just gel your natural hair or wear a short wig that's been messed up a bit (add some gray if you want a current Mel Gibson look).

Makeup
Push it over the top by painting your face blue, in the style of "Braveheart." To apply, paint a vertical line down the center of your face from the hairline to below the chin. Cover the entire right side of the face with the blue face paint. On the left side, draw another vertical line down the center of the left half of the face (it doesn't have to be straight), and cover the area to the left of the line with face paint.

Clothing
Nothing fancy, just jeans and an oxford shirt over a t-shirt with the name of one Mel Gibson's movies scrawled on it with a fabric pen or paint.

Props
A phone, of course. Don't use the smart phone you've usually got in your hand anyway, instead use an exaggerated prop or toy phone. Brandish it around and scream into it as loudly as you can -- this is not a costume for the meek!
