#1 and #2 cannot both be true - if pumpkins are indigenous to the Western Hemisphere and unknown in the Eastern Hemisphere before Columbus, they cannot have been eaten in Africa, India and China in the 6th century. On the other hand, both could be true IF pumpkins arrived in the Eastern Hemisphere long before Columbus. Maybe the Chinese DID cross the Pacific before Columbus or Leif Ericson crossed the Atlantic.
