Take Alexander Hamilton, for instance. He's on the ten dollar bill -- but was he President? We conducted a very in-depth and factually accurate investigation to find out for sure.
Was Alexander Hamilton President?
It's President's Day, an opportunity for Americans to reflect on the great men who have led this country since its inception. But what about the men who don't get the recognition they deserve?
Take Alexander Hamilton, for instance. He's on the ten dollar bill -- but was he President? We conducted a very in-depth and factually accurate investigation to find out for sure.

I do not have a degree in history though at one time I considered history as a major. I do, however read about 2-3 books on the topic every week and I feel I am as qualified to comment as anyone here. I was horrified recently when my 11 year old nephew told me that his teacher told him that of course Franklin and Hamilton were presidents, "only presidents were allowed on our money" I then took out my collection of state quarters and showed him New Hampshire and he agreed that surely the "old man of the mountain" must have been president once but did not recall his name. So I gave him a book on the presidents for Christmas. (notice how one or two get published everytime a new president is elected?) After reading it he exclaimed "where are all the other presidents? If he was my son I would have already gone to the superintendant of schools and demanded that they fire that teacher.

I don't know where you and everyone else keeps getting this from. Alexander Hamilton was NOT born to a slave. His father was James Hamilton, a businessman from Scotland. His mother was Rachel Fawcet Levien, a business woman on the Island of Nevis. Her will was probated there around 1771. Slaves did NOT leave wills as they did not own property they WERE property. You may inspect the probate records in the records office on the Island of Nevis in the British West Indies. This is just yet another example of the failure of our educational system.

I realize this kind of humor is popular, made so by the Colbert nation and earlier by the Tonight show, but really, the lack of knowledge by everyday Americans is no laughing matter. I dont think it's funny that people think Alexander Hamilton invented the phone, or that Franklin wasnt ever President. I think the whole premise is silly (I know that was the point) but lets not kid ourselves. I think studpidity should be villified not celebrated, and I'm not even Chinese.

Did he say the one who invented the Telephone? WTF. Does the term "Bell" system mean anything to anyone? I give up.
For those who dont know...it is or was the bell system in honor of Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone. Hamilton was much earlier and older than Graham Bell. and did not invetn the telephone, telegraph ETC.

This kind of article, while humorous, can be confused by many of todays citizens, as truthful. We live in a world that is so uneducated that they just don't know the difference in real and sarcasm or farce. A lot of people who view this report, will truly believe there is some kind of controversy about whether Hamilton was president or not. I mean...if it's on the internet, it's true, right?

Well, there's 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I can't believe this clown actually interviewed a professor to determine if Alexander Hamilton was ever a President. All this fool had to do was check a list of American Presidents. Is Hamilton on it? No! All this so-called "research" proved was how ignorant Americans are about their own history.

Sad, but true. The man is mere steps from sainthood among the folks in the Republinist/ Conservative Party. Never mind the fact that he willingly broke laws during his Presidency (Iran Contra).
Republinist=direct quote from 2nd in line for sainthood... G.W. Bush Yes, he said that.

George Washington was not our first president, although he was the first president under our Constitution of 1789.
The Continental Congress had presidents http://www.russpickett.com/ushist/uscont.htm
The Articles of Confederation had presidents www.marshallhall.org/hansom
Of course, the Continental Congress was BEFORE and During the American Revolution.
The Articles of Confederation was AFTER the American Revolution (and didn't work well).
So, we date our "real" presidents from the Constitution of 1789.

The president (i.e. presiding officer) of a legislative body is not the same as being President of the United States. The office did not exist until the ratification of the Constitution so Washington was the first president of the United States. Your point, while well taken, is only trivia and does not really apply.

As a huge Hamilton fan, I have to say that this video is completely idiotic. Thomas Fleming is a freaking genius and that dude just made himself look like a moron by making fun of him. So stupid. Also, the majority of educated people know who Hamilton was. Videos like this are totally disrespectful to everything he worked so hard to accomplish.

Amy it was satire, I am a historian and I thought it was very funny and making sport of how ignorant folks are of history. I am a Jeffersonian so I guess we have the sense of humor Hamiltonians lack (that's a joke by the way)

The majority of educated Americans, perhaps.
The majority of all Americans, dubious.

Yeah! Don't you love the idiots that post penny auctions or something about this butt ugly broad having a boyfriend that is 11 years her senior? Or maybe it aint a broad and this guy is really a guy and has a boyfriend 11 years older. When I see them I simply report them. Maybe AOL or somebody will close their account or have some method of preventing this nonsensical drivel from making it to these boards.
