Oscar Party Table: Simple Glamor

The 2011 Academy Awards are on February 27 -- time to celebrate the biggest films of the year! The popcorn is popped, the wine is chilled and dinner is warming (or -- even better -- being delivered shortly). All that's left is to dress up your table. Don't stress -- all it takes are a few key props and a little creativity to make your Oscar party table pop!

Fresh Flowers
Whether you decide on one statement-making centerpiece or divvy up a large bouquet into smaller arrangements, flowers will elevate your party, letting your guests know you mean business. White is clean, fresh, wintry and elegant. White roses or white carnations are equally beautiful and pair perfectly with clear glass or silver vessels.

Take the arrangements to the next level by adding in decorative picks from the craft store -- think glittery branches and baubles. Or head outside and scrounge up a few snips of evergreen to add to your arrangement to make it rustic and elegant.

Table Topper
You can't go wrong with a plain white tablecloth, however, how fabulous will it look when you add a strip of red fabric to mimic the red carpet? Shop for a red runner at a discount store such as HomeGoods or simply layer a piece of red velvet, satin or cotton down the center of your table. To add a little glam, look for one with beading or rhinestones or add them yourself.

Pretty Plates
Perfect for a sit-down meal, a gold-plate charger is a simple, inexpensive way to make your everyday dinnerware shine. Often you can find these in the dollar or craft store. If you're having a buffet, layer them under your smaller platters. If you'd rather use paper, shop your local party store for plain colored paper plates. Try a large dinner plate in black under a smaller gold dessert plate.

Lucky Charm
For quick and elegant place cards, grab a few white envelopes and write each guest's name on top. Try your hand at calligraphy or use letter rubber stamps and ink. Then, for added fun, place a lottery ticket inside each envelope so guests can try their own hand at a little luck. Place an envelope at each guest's setting.

If your group has an Oscar pool going, print out a ballot for each guest, roll it up and tie it off with gold ribbon and place that on the table, in front of each place setting so they can make and keep track of their picks.

Party Props
There are so many fabulous Oscar-related goodies out there, now is the time to indulge! Gold cardboard cut-out stars are fabulous and look so fun when tossed randomly on your table. Mini replica Oscar statuettes are so adorable when placed down the center of a table. Movie tins are such an iconic symbol and can be used to decorate your table or fill them with candy and send home with guests.
